Huawei Boss
In China, male babies are preferred over female babies because the family wants to pass the family down the line. It is thus very unusual for a man to let his children follow their mother’s surname. Huawei’s boss Ren Zheng Fei 任正非 had a first wife named Meng Zun 孟军. Together, they had a boy and a girl. The daughter is the notorious Meng Wan Zhou 孟晚舟.
The son was originally named Meng Ping 孟平; later changed his name to Ren Ping 任平。But why did Mr Ren let his children follow his wife’s surname？He once explained that it’s because he was indebted to the Meng family. Interestingly, they got divorced.
In his second marriage, Ren Zheng Fei married Yao Ling 姚凌。They had a daughter Yao An Na 姚安娜。Could it be that Ren Zheng Fei is also indebted to the Yao family？What is the reason for him not to follow tradition?
