Shameless Liars
“How can it be possible? Why did you believe me?”
Heard a story from a China friend just now. Her friend in China had been trying desperately to apply for a passport. Then, an acquaintance in the civil service boasted that he could get her passport done in a week. She paid him 5,000 yuan.
3 months and 100 excuses later, she realised that she had been duped. When she confronted the guy, he replied with the above statement and that egregiously shameless statement is actually quite commonly used by conmen when they are confronted. It’s interesting how these statements don’t always result in stabbing incidents. It’s as if the victim is expected to see that she’s the one at fault; which is what the authorities would think as it’s a crime to bribe a civil servant.
