Senator Mark Kelly visited Ukraine last week. He met with Ukrainian pilots and nurses and not only observed the destruction that Russian forces had inflicted on innocent civilians, he heard eye witness accounts of the brutality of the invaders. The Ukrainians had bravely fought back with help from the US. But Donald Trump, in his attempt to end the war, had put Ukraine’s defence forces at risk by depriving them of military aid and intelligence.
Contrary to how the leader of the free world would react to this situation, Trump was apparently on Russia’s side. He had admitted that he worked better with tough people. Mark Kelly is not alone in thinking that the Trump administration is making a serious mistake. Even Republicans find Trump’s attempts to help Putin win this war disgraceful, going against all the principles that decent Americans stand for. Returning from Ukraine and posting his opinion on X, Mark Kelly got a response from Elon Musk, inexplicably calling him a traitor. Kelly swiftly got rid of his Tesla. Of course, there are many Putin and Musk fans out there who support everything their idols say. We live in a world that has changed so drastically since almost the entire world condemned the invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Saddam Hussein was ahead of his time. Had he invaded Kuwait today, he would have no lack of supporters.
Meanwhile, Putin tried to push his luck by rejecting the ceasefire terms put out by the US. The Putin fans celebrated too early. Weapons have been shipped into Ukraine and Putin is punished.
